India's leading sand sculptor responds to events

Sand art is apparently a thriving subculture with global celebrities and events. India's leading exponent, Sudarshan Patnaik, 27, has recently completed a nine-foot high sculpture depicting the torture of prisoners by the American guards at the Abu Gharib prison in Baghdad. This is public art, on the beach at the temple town of Puri, Orissa. It will be washed away with the high tide.
